5 TIPS FOR SKIING WITH KIDS DURING THE HOLIDAYS - WITH PERFORMANCE SKI SCHOOL

Discover expert tips from Kate at Performance Ski School to ensure a great skiing experience for your little ones.

1. BEGINNER & VERY YOUNG KIDS

For beginner kids and very young ones, the focus is not just on skiing but also on familiarizing themselves with equipment and enjoying the snow. If their initial interest lies in making snowmen and snow angels rather than skiing, don't fret. In case of first-day tears, feel confident leaving them in the capable hands of the instructor—more often than not, once you're gone, the tears dry up, and they have a fantastic time. Surprisingly, nine times out of ten, they ski much better without the distraction of mom and dad on the first day.

2. WHERE TO GO AFTER YOUR CHILDREN’S LESSON

If you're skiing with your children after a lesson, make sure you ask your instructor the best place for you all to ski, you don’t want to undo progress by taking them down a slope that's above their ski level.

3. IN CASE THEY GET LOST

If your child doesn’t have a phone, pop a card in their pocket with your name and number on, make sure they know what to do if they do get lost on the mountain (ask an instructor or responsible adult for help, get them to call you)

4. SAFETY RULES

Teach kids the rules of the mountain, key rules for kids are always look up the hill before you ski off, if you are crossing a piste and if you are going from off piste on to piste, and, always check the landing of a jump before making the jump.

5. AVOID FEET PAIN

Ski boots: only a ski sock should be in a ski boot, make sure socks are pulled up and nothing is tucked into the boot, even a folded over sock can lead to pain in the boot.
