Bike Routes - June 2023
E-Bikes have taken Verbier, and the cycling world, by storm. They open up the mountain to people of all ages and abilities. They allow us mere mortals to go further than we ever thought possible - and they offer even the most seasoned pros new ways to push their limits. This versatility and accessibility is what makes E-Bikes a must-try for those of you who haven’t already had the pleasure, and a must-try-again for those who have.
Here we have three trails, ranging from beginner to expert, that will get you out seeking new adventures and have you experiencing the mountain in a whole new way. We cannot recommend this highly enough!
BEGINNER:
If you haven’t tried E-Biking then this is a great route with open paths and some good climbs to really test them out. It really shows how you have so much range to explore further afield than with a traditional bike.
Setting off from Mountain Air and heading up past Carrefour to Croix de Coeur, a great spot to take in the whole of Verbier and look down the valley to Sion on the other side. You then take the Roman road all the way round to La Chaux through the 3D sculpture park. After La Chaux, you can enjoy a long descent on fire roads cutting back to join the Route du Soleil. To add a bit more interest I recommend taking a last ascent up to Clambin where there is the popular Chez Dany restaurant (opens 30 June) before cruising back to Mountain Air for a well deserved beer, ready to test the intermediate trail the next day!
INTERMEDIATE:
This is a mix and match route that you can customise to suit your style and level of riding. You can either take the lift up to Ruinettes, or climb up through the woods above Medran, passing Chez Dany on your way up to Ruinettes, whilst sticking to the wide road.
From Ruinettes, you take the Roman road towards Croix de Coeur. For an easier ride, you can continue all the way to Croix de Coeur, or you can drop in a little earlier on one of the single trails. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THESE ARE SHARED WITH WALKERS, so make sure that you always look ahead and stay in control.
Once you get back to Verbier, you can continue on down to Le Chable via the Patier track. This is a lot more technical and has some fairly steep sections in between wider sections. Don't hesitate to get off and walk if you get uncomfortable - the top section is the hardest.
From Le Chable, you can either find a nice route up to Verbier on one of the smaller roads - or you can hop on the lift and enjoy another well deserved beer in Verbier!
EXPERT:
If you are an experienced biker then this E-Bike tour will keep your focus! It combines a good climb followed by flowing trail that then drops you into some nice technical terrain.
From Mountain Air you go up to Ruinettes through the woods of Verbier (check in with the staff in regards to the snow level and to ensure that you can get all the way up). Bike through the 3D Sculpture park to La Chaux before dropping in to the descent. It starts open and flowing so you can get comfortable and relaxed on the bike before you arrive into the technical terrain at the tree line.
The Commune Bike Trail Team have cleaned and shaped this route, which means you can really enjoy the fun technical switch backs. Just watch out for one corner where if you get it wrong things can go seriously wrong - remember to take it easy the first time you ride new trails until you know the lay of the land. Cruise back to Le Châble and hop on the lift, or if you still have battery (or puff left in the lungs) then you can bike back up to Verbier.
